What were we asked to look at
The Scottish Health Technologies Group (SHTG) has been asked to assess the evidence for a digitally delivered Type 2 diabetes prevention programme. The content of the programme will align with the recommendations set out in the NICE public health guidelines (PH 38) on Type 2 diabetes: prevention in people at high risk. This includes offering ongoing tailored advice, support and encouragement to people through established behaviour-change techniques such as information provision, goal setting, action planning, coping plans and relapse prevention.
Why is this important
The impact of the pandemic has contributed to significant disruption in services and implementation plans for Type 2 diabetes prevention and weight management services. Poor diet, lack of physical activity and obesity are known to be the main modifiable factors in the development of Type 2 diabetes. Therefore, a prevention programme should focus on addressing these aspects.
