The Scottish Health Technologies Group (SHTG) was asked to evaluate what evidence is available on the implementation of technology enabled theatre scheduling tools in a real-world setting?

Why is this important?

Post-Covid 19, the NHS is looking to improve aspects of service delivery in the NHS that contribute to capacity. To help address a backlog of people waiting for much needed surgery.

Digital technology and data systems could provide us with the opportunity to release capacity in new ways that more efficiently meet the needs of both patients and staff.

A digital theatre scheduling system may provide benefits for health boards, administration staff, clinicians, patients and nationally for the health care sector.
