Computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) and CT fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR) for investigation of patients with stable chest pain

What were we asked to look at?

SHTG have been asked to consider the appropriate use of computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) with or without the addition of CT fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR) calculation in the diagnosis and investigation of adult patients with suspected typical or atypical angina caused by coronary artery stenosis.

Why is this important?

Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death in Scotland, with approximately 6,900 deaths each year. One of the current gold standard diagnostic tests for coronary artery disease is invasive coronary angiography and fractional flow reserve measurement.  CTCA and CT-FFR offer a less invasive option for diagnosing the presence and severity of coronary artery stenosis in people experiencing stable chest pain.
